Writer: Marv Wolfman

Letterer: Joe Rosen

The Yellow Claw latest plans at world domination include a missile strike against Washington D.C. and a deadly tidal wave to wash over NYC. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. joins forces with Nova to combat the threats.

  • Continuity Notes
  • The Yellow Claw last tangled with Fury in Strange Tales #159-167, where it was revealed the Claw had been an android
  • The Yellow Claw had been appearing in Nova as far back as issue 13
  • The Steranko-designed ESP control chamber is seen in #17
  • Cover appearance on issue #18

Its Strange Tales redux with Nick Fury once again saving NYC from the Yellow Claw, but the story doesn't match the original. The art is solid, with a team including penciler Carmine Infantino, and  the story by Marv Wolfman makes for a well-paced adventure. The only real detraction from the plot is the fact that it borrows somewhat from the classic Steranko yarn, however Nova fans were probably none the wiser. Fury's taking the young super-hero Nova under his wing is a nice change of pace from other stories of this time and the pair actually make a good team. If you find this one at a bargain, definitely go for it
