Promoted to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Directorate in
the wake of Jimmy Woo's 'death'
|
Seconded
to S.H.I.E.L.D. by King T'Challa himself, Derek Khanata brought to the agency
experience and high recommendations (despite some history with the Hatut Zeraze).
Khanata descends from a long line of warrior scholars, his name meaning
'for the Khan', referring to Wakandaian contact with Genghis Khan 800
years ago.
Khanata was the lead agent in the investigation of the AIM cell lead
by Monica Rappaccini. During the investigation, Khanata made contact
with Rappaccini's
daughter, the teenaged Carmilla Black who was endowed with genetic enhancements.
Khanata brought her into the operation against A.I.M. and set her up as the hero/S.H.I.E.L.D.
agent
known as Scorpion.
Khanta was also
instrumental in shutting down a black-market technology ring running out of the
helicarrier, together with Scorpion and Doc Samson.
Khanta was next put in charge of looking into the rouge
S.H.I.E.L.D. team lead by Jimmy Woo into the Atlas Foundation, resulting in the near
death of Woo. His
investigation eventually joined Khanta with Woo and his former 'Avengers'
compatriots from 1958. Khanata aided Woo in learning the secrets of the final
plan by the
Yellow Claw. Following
Woo's apparent 'death', Khanta was promoted by Dugan to a position on the S.H.I.E.L.D.
directorate.
Khanta continues to act as Scorpion's handler
.
