Handpicked
and recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D. by Nick Fury, Daisy Johnson left behind a
troubled life of shoplifting and flunking out of school after being
confronted with her real identity. The illegitimate daughter of Calvin
Zabo, aka Mister Hyde, Johnson posses mutant seismic ability; most
likely a result of the experimentation Zabo treated himself to in his
quest to duplicate the transformations from Robert Louis Stevenson's The
Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Taken in by
S.H.I.E.L.D. she served under the direct supervision of Nick Fury, undergoing
rigorous training to help her learn to control her powers.
Johnson was used by Nick Fury in the clandestine attack on Latveria that
deposed Lucia von Bardas and sparked the 'secret war' affair. Using her
'quake' powers to bring down Castle Von Doom, Johnson fought alongside
Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-man, and Luke Cage. Together With
Black Widow and Fury, Johnson was one of the only operatives to retain
memories of the event. In the year that followed Johnson made enemies
of Arnim Zola, Yi-Yang, and the D-Generation. When von Bardas unleashed
her retribution against the heroes who invaded Latveria, Johnson was
at Fury's side and used her seismic powers to kill von Bardas.
In the wake of the events now known as Fury's "Secret War" her
relationship with Nick Fury labeled her persona-non-grata under
the directorship of the incoming Maria Hill.
Hill reluctantly called in Johnson on Captain America's request to help
defeat the powerful mutant rebel leader Magneto. Johnson induced a vibration
in the possessed Magneto's brain that made him lose consciousness. Shortly
after, she made public her wish to join the Avengers with the moniker "Quake" but
was rejected.
When Nick Fury learned of the impending Skrull invasion of Earth, he
put into motion a plan to bring together a team of super-powered heroes
that would not be known to anyone; making them essentially 'Skrull-proof'.
Fury chose Johnson to recruit the team and help oversee their training.
Johnson at last managed to take the name 'Quake' as part of Nick Fury's
Secret Warriors. Leading Fury's main strike team in his war against Hydra and Leviathan, Daisy grew close to one of her teammates, J.T. aka Hellfire. J.T. turned out to be a double agent, working for Hydra and betrayed the team on one of thier last missions.
When the third S.H.I.E.L.D. took shape, Johnson became "interm" director, as her mentor, Nick Fury wanted, but it does not last long. Johnson's attempt on the legitimate leader of A.I.M. Island backfired and she was run out of the agency. Despite this setback, Captain America's faith in her led her to join in on missions with the Avengers, proving herself a worthy ally.
