This version of
Nick Fury existed on an divergent timeline wherein Magneto lead
a successful mutant revolution in the 1970s and lords over a mutant
dominated
Earth. Much of his history remained the same as the normal Marvel
Universe, until the outbreak of the Mutant-Human War. As head of
SHIELD, Fury came into direct conflict with Magneto, losing against
the mutant armies. Under Magneto's rule,
SHIELD became the primary tool for the new world order with a combination
of human and mutant agents.
Nick Fury was forced to return to SHIELD and train a new elite force
known as the 'Red Guard'
under threat of killing his son (named Jacob, presumably for his
brother). During this time, Fury first crossed paths with Logan,
aka Wolverine, whom he designated squad leader.
Forced to go into
hiding,
Fury eventually
became leader of the global human resistance movement.
Among the noteworthy changes in this universe are the fact that his
brother Jake remains alive and Fury's eye
injury in World War II forced him to wear an eye patch before the
end of the war, however no longer sported as head of SHIELD. Another
cosmetic change is Fury's hair color, here a light brown, nearly
blond.
With Sebastian Shaw as director of the
agency, Wolverine leads the elite Red Guard as the elite special forces
unit of the agency. Other SHIELD agents include; Jessica Drew, Mystique,
Nightcrawler, Rouge, Toad, and Madame Web. Former agents of SHIELD
prior to Magneto global takeover included Bucky Barnes, Hawkeye, Carol
Danvers.
